Organza cut pieces: buy one metre, not ten
Organza is the fabric everyone wants a little of and nobody wants a lot of. It is sheer, it is crisp, it holds a shape away from the body — which makes it perfect for sleeves, dupattas, overlays, yokes and sheer panels, and slightly impractical as an entire garment. Yet almost every fabric shop in India will only sell it in 5-metre cuts.
This page is the opposite of that. Every piece here is a genuine end-of-roll length, measured to the centimetre, from ₹93.
The four organzas we stock, and how they differ
Pure organza — the standard. Crisp, sheer, good body. Best for dupattas, sleeves and layered lehenga panels. Wrinkles if you crush it, so store it rolled.
Silk organza — woven from silk yarn rather than polyester or viscose. Noticeably softer sheen, better drape, more expensive. If you are making something that will be photographed closely, this is the one.
Glass organza — extra-crisp with a faint shimmer. Holds structure the best of the four. Used for statement sleeves, standing collars, and anything that needs to stay out from the body.
Dyeable organza — undyed, usually ivory or off-white. You dye it, or RIDH's Egmore studio dyes it to your shade. The cheapest way to get an exact colour match with an existing outfit.
How much organza do you actually need?
- Saree blouse with sheer sleeves only — 0.5 m
- Full sheer blouse — 1.0 m
- Dupatta — 2.25–2.5 m
- Kurti overlay — 1.8 m
- Lehenga ruffle layer — 3–4 m
- Four scrunchies — 0.3 m
Care
Dry clean is safest. If you hand-wash, use cold water, no wringing, and dry flat in shade — organza takes a permanent crease from twisting. Iron on the lowest setting with a cotton cloth between the iron and the fabric. Never iron sequinned or foiled organza directly.
Why these pieces are cheap and still good
They come off the same rolls that RIDH — The Fabric Studio in Egmore, Chennai — sells at full metre rates to designers and boutiques. When a roll ends at 1.4 metres, that length cannot be sold to someone who needs 3. It is the same fabric, in an awkward quantity. Every bit is priced at 50% of RIDH's shelf rate for the same fabric. Not a sale — that is the model.
