Buying a blouse piece online, honestly explained
A saree blouse takes 0.8 to 1 metre of 44-inch fabric. Sleeveless, you can manage with 0.7 m. A designer blouse with a lined yoke, puff sleeves or a deep back takes the full metre and a little extra for matching. If you are centring a big embroidered motif, add 20 cm.
That is a small amount of fabric — and it is exactly why blouse buying is frustrating in India. Most shops will not cut you one metre of a good silk. Online stores set 2-metre or 5-metre minimums. So you either buy far more than you need, or you settle for whatever pre-cut pieces the shop happens to stock.
Every piece on this page is under 1 metre, and every piece is the only one of it in existence. The shorter cuts (0.4–0.7 m) suit sleeveless blouses, kids frocks, cushion covers and craft.
Choosing by fabric
- Upada / lotus silk — crisp, holds shape. Collared, boat neck, padded.
- Soft tussar — textured. Day weddings, temple wear, handloom sarees.
- Chanderi — light, slightly sheer. Festive but not heavy; needs lining.
- Silk organza — sheer and crisp. Sheer sleeves, layered yokes, dramatic backs.
- Cotton / print — soft, matte. Everyday cotton and linen sarees.
- Embroidered pieces — a statement blouse without buying 5 m of embroidery.
Before you order
Every piece is 44 inches wide, which is standard for a blouse. Check the exact length against your tailor's requirement, not a general rule — some tailors cut generously.
